what year was this?
79… this is the one that started it all..
The striking difference between this and modern rap is their demeanor. I don’t know if it was the culture in that time but they are classy and not showing a trace of the tough guy act that goes on today. Their stage presence seems more like singers than rappers as we know them now. Their emphasis is on their music and not on portraying some kind of gangster facade. I don’t think their style would suit everyone but I believe rappers, in general, were more artistic back then.
more ice, more jews

The classic rap that once was.
I feel for these guys, because they started a great genre, that has been destroyed by the likes of N Dubz, Dizzee Rascal, and any pretty faced-boy that can’t sing in the charts.
The Sugarhill Gang are like the Led Zeppelin of rap.
The only difference is, bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Slayer and Pantera carried on Led Zeppelin’s legacy. All creating an individual sound, but always have an influence of Zeppelin.
Artists such as N-Dubz, Tinchy Strider, Busta Rhymes, and the entire roster of MCs and rappers, have DESTROYED the legacy of SHG. They’ve created an individual sound, having no influence from the fathers!
